It is a method of getting to the root of a problem quickly and effortlessly. Once this is discovered, negative energy in the form of thought patterns, emotions and/or behaviors can be cleared from the subconscious mind, the larger mind, which has much power in our lives.
Then, new suggestions can be implanted in the subconscious in order to create new behaviors, thought patterns and emotions, which will then begin to make one's life more joyful.
Past life regressions are another form of hypnotherapy that are often very useful! Hear an excerpt from our radio program below.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is clinical hypnosis. It
is therapy done to relieve and cure a wide range of mental and physical disorders while
in a state of hypnosis.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness.
Hypnosis can be thought of as the link which forms a bridge between the mind
and the body. It is a natural state of mind, similar to your state of mind when you
daydream while performing some routine task.
You are not asleep during hypnosis.
All your faculties (except your critical faculty) are fully functional and you are in control
at all times. The hypnotherapist acts as a guide or
facilitator to guide you to a state
of deep relaxation. In this state the critical faculty within
your conscious mind is suspended, enabling
your subconscious to accept the suggestions of the therapist without interference
from the conscious mind. Because your critical faculty is suspended, you accept suggestions
which you would find nearly impossible to
do under ordinary conditions. Yet you
are fully capable of rejecting any suggestion you are not in agreement with.
What problems can be helped by hypnotherapy?
Almost any problem can be helped by
hypnotherapy since almost any problem has an emotional cause, even cancer.
Some common uses for hypnotherapy are: depression, low self-esteem, anger, guilt, anxiety,
stress, lack of confidence, fears, phobias, chronic pain, weight loss, smoking, 'nerves,' insomnia,
nail-biting, infertility, impotence, allergies and stammering.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, if you want to. However there are
some exceptions. Since hypnosis requires cooperation between the client and
the therapist, anyone who cannot cooperate will not
be a good candidate. This category includes:
1 - Anyone who is mentally deficient
in some way.
2 - Children under five years.
3 - Anyone under the influence of drugs
and/or alcohol.
Note: Anyone with a history of epilepsy,
even though under control, should never be hypnotized.
What does it feel like?
You feel warm, comfortable and relaxed.
You are aware of your surroundings, aware of the hypnotist's voice, aware of distant
sounds. Yet none of these will disturb you because you want to be hypnotized, you want
to have your problems resolved.
Are there any side effects?
The only side effects are positive ones.
You will come away feeling more relaxed and in control than you felt previously.
You will fall asleep easier and your sleep will be more restful.
How long do the sessions last?
There is no hard-and-fast rule. Depending
on the problem, it can take anywhere from one to two hours or more. The average time
is one hour.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends. Some clients need only one
session, while others need several. Most people will see results after three or four
sessions.
Can I eat and drink before coming
in?
A light meal no later than one hour
before you come in is acceptable. Alcoholic drinks should be avoided for at least four hours prior
to a session.
Should I stop my medications and
my medical treatments?
No, you should not. Hypnotherapy works
hand-in-hand with conventional medical treatment; it is not a substitute
for drugs. Quite often the client finds the need for certain drugs diminished, especially with stress-related
problems.
If visualization is so important
in hypnotherapy, what if I can't visualize?
Anyone can visualize. We are all born
with the ability, though some may have lost it in the process of 'growing up.' You
can regain the ability through practice. There are exercises which can help you to 'see'
through the mind's eye once more.
How will I know that I am hypnotized?
You will know by certain tests the
hypnotist does to prove to you that you are hypnotized. These tests are called 'convincers'
and they do just that-- convince you.
